A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth. It forms the foundation for a natural-looking crown, bridge, or full-arch prosthesis.
The implant itself is usually a titanium screw with high biocompatibility. On top of the implant, a custom-made prosthetic tooth is placed, commonly made from zirconia, porcelain, or advanced ceramic materials such as E-max.
Dental implant treatment often requires a multi-disciplinary approach involving implantologists, periodontologists, and prosthodontists to ensure correct alignment, bite and long-term stability.
